AML Compliance Officer (AMLCO)

The AML Compliance Officer will execute the company’s Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) program and manage onboarding of customers, maintain regulatory systems (CIP/sanctions screening), conduct suspicious/unusual activity monitoring, carry out reporting, and secure recordkeeping. The AML Compliance Officer is a key role that advises and assists the company in creating smooth customer and consumer journeys while remaining fully compliant with applicable laws and regulations. The AML Compliance Officer will conduct regular communications with the company’s banking partners to monitor satisfaction of SLAs and communicate unusual activity and other risk events during normal business activity. The AML Compliance Officer reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and is expected to sit in the Denver office.

Qualifications

Thorough understanding of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and all BSA related requirements, including Anti-money laundering provisions, Customer Identification Program requirements, Customer Risk Scoring, the USA Patriot Act, and OFAC screening.

3 – 5 years of AML and BSA experience that shows a progression in knowledge, expertise, and responsibility in banking or fintech situations.

CAMS or CFCS certification required, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Expertise in implementing, maturing, and operating a three-line-of-defense compliance program.

  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills and detail oriented
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, remain organized, with established prioritization skills

Ability to research, integrate and monitor anti-money laundering and terrorist financing laws in other countries where expansion may be considered or warranted based upon company business plans.

Expertise in implementing, maturing, and operating a dual control compliance infrastructure.

Experience with regulatory audit and examination, as well as program and operation reviews conducted by banking partners.

Familiarity with quantified risk assessment, data analysis, and senior management reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

AML and BSA aptitude in payroll, payments, prepaid payment cards, payment card processing, and/or international situations.

Experience working with various types of financial institutions as a banking partner, including state and federally chartered depository institutions, foreign-located depository institutions, and/or international e-money institutions.

Knowledge of or experience with privacy and information security regulations and standards in various U.S. states, federal, European/UK GDPR, and other geographies/jurisdictions; including security frameworks such as PCI DSS, SOC 2, and ISO 27001.

Experience with data analysis using Excel, SQL, R, PowerBI or similar business intelligence platforms or languages.

Additional language proficiencies are a positive: Spanish, Portuguese, German, or French, specifically.

Responsibilities

Execute the Company’s Bank Secrecy Act Program, to include the OFAC/sanctions screening; customer identification program (CIP); customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence; AML transaction monitoring, alert escalation, and investigations.

Provide AML/BSA-related training to new hires and company staff on an annual basis.

Maintain and update the AML/BSA program, policies, and procedures as needed and guide P&P changes through the Company’s change management framework.

Conduct customer onboarding activities, to include determining when enhanced due diligence is required based on written policy and any unusual risks posed to the Company.

Monitor AML/BSA and OFAC processes to assure that they operate in a good working order.

Analyze transactional and customer data sets to identify trends, gaps, inconsistencies, and errors to improve or enhance team efficiencies.

Coordinate with Compliance leadership and Fraud department to identify, interdict and report malicious actors.

Creates and maintains periodic oversight reports – which may include data validation, report writing, complex excel functions / formulas, macros, pivot tables, general Risk Management dashboards and heat maps.

Define and monitor monthly KRIs / KPIs including defining measures of performance and effectiveness.

Liaise with partnered banking institutions’ compliance departments to identify and disposition issues as they arise in order to maintain constant operations.

Assists with Quality Assurance review data sets and compliance related ad-hoc projects or other duties as assigned.
